Look out for one of our best loved native animals at the Narrandera Koala Reserve, home to more than 200 healthy koalas. This is an ideal environment for them – river red gums are a great source of food and Murrumbidgee River offers a cooler location on hotter days. Look out for them in branches overhanging the river. Each year the annual koala spotting count draws people from across the region. It is clear from the number of sightings both upstream and downstream of the reserve that the territorial habits of the koala have led to a spread of the population well beyond its boundaries, proving the overwhelming success of thisĀ important regenerative project.
